Service Learning | Intro to Education

I have really enjoyed my learning placement this semester. I feel as though I learned things about teaching and specifically Kindergarten that I did not know before. And to answer you question, I am still determined and excited to become a teacher! Although it may or may not be for Kindergarteners. With these young of students comes pros and cons. They are still so young where they are still learning good habits of being human, for example: respect, stillness, quietness, teamwork etc. But so many pros come with them as well, they are still so innocent that they come with so many good qualities. I personally believe that this truly is the profession for me, and my learning placement helped me make sure of it. The grades that I want to teach (elementary school) are some of the most important times of their lives. They are learning the things they need to know to be a human, to understand how the world works. But it's also a time where they need some to listen and be there for them....

Learning Portfolio Because of these blogging assignments I am see the connections between what I am learning in this class and through the lessons to seeing it in real time in my advanced placement classes. I learn about certain things in the class modules and then when I got o my placement class, I see what our Professors are talking about. For example the No Child Left Behind or the diversity, it helped my point out the specific examples in my classroom. The blogging system has made me think deeper about what I am seeing and how it is going to help me with my future classroom. Not only do I blog, but I also take a notebook with me when I go, so I don't forget memorable things that I learn, like activities or instructions that my teacher uses with her students that I want to remember for when I have my own classroom of students. I go to my learning placement teacher at the same time every week. So I assume I am missing certain subjects that are being taught. I am usually there when they are going over their certain letters and learning words that start with that letter. And sometimes sight words, briefly. Kindergarten is still a very young age where you're still learning how to write your name. So they are learning to count, the abc's, specifically what sounds each letter makes etc. Simple simple. So I feel like kindergarten teachers have to wing it a lot, because this is like the beginning of learning for their students. So a lot of students might be drastically faster or slower than others. My service learning teacher makes her standards/expectations very clear. And with any age of student you have to be repetitious, which she is.
